Superbly tight, handsome first edition of this exceptional anthology which the jacket front panel calls "The rich and vivid narrative of Lincoln's life and times skillfully recreated in an exciting new kind of biography." Tipped to the front flyleaf is a good content Typed Letter Signed from Angle, 1p, 8½" X 11", Chicago, IL, 26 February 1948. Addressed to Arnold Gates (1914-93, noted Lincoln and Civil War scholar). Near fine. On "Chicago Historical Society" letterhead, Angle tells Gates "I enjoyed your Cooper Union story, and of course the reference to Mrs. Livermore is of interest to any Chicagoan," then offers some odd biographical data about noted Lincoln scholar Harry Pratt: "Harry Pratt is still the Assistant Manager of the Sears & Roebuck store at Beloit, Wisconsin. He left the Abraham Lincoln Association some years ago to resume teaching. After a year at Ball State Teachers College, he went with Sears & Roebuck, first at Muncie, Indiana, and later at Beloit."
