About This Item

New York: Star Library Publications, Inc., 1932. Rare surviving fan biography of 1930s film star Constance Bennett. Bennett began her movie career in silent films and made the transition of talkies. She was the sister of actresses Joan Bennett and Barbara Bennett and was also the aunt of the late talk show host Morton Downey Jr. The oft married Constance made a success of both dramatic and comedic roles. Small magazine style with stapled binding. Glossy pages profusely illustrated with sepia photographs. Tracks Bennett's life from her well-to-do upbringing in New York City in the early 1900s through her stardom in 1930s films. Last two pages are a list of Bennett's films with spaces for the reader to annotate. There are some pencilled annotations here. There a blemish on front cover photograph, edgewear and some rubbing wear to covers; a small discolored area spineside on back cover. There is also a slight tanned area on rear endpage (blank) and some handling wear or impressions on outside margin. This volume is said to be done with the actress' cooperation and author mary Margaret McBridge wrote other celebrity biographies as well as writing a newspaper column and for popular magazines of the time. The book reports on Miss Bennett's childhood, marriage, number of servants and that she "collects old prints and jades" and that "she is fond of perfume and blends her own."
