By Pierce Egan. Author of Walks through Bath, Sporting Anecdotes, Pictures of the Fancy, Boxiana, &c. Dedicated to His Most Gracious Majesty King George the Fourth. Embellished with Thirty-Six Scenes from Real Life, Designed and Etched by I. R. & G. Cruikshank, And enriched also with numerous original Designs on Wood, by the same Artists. London, Sherwood, Neely, and Jones, Paternoster-Row, 1821. Full gilt-decorated red morocco, binding signed "Brentano's New York," gilt-edged pages all around. Head and foot of spine chipped. Front cover rehinged. Interior fine, occasional off-setting from illustrations. First edition, second issue, as Cohn points out, "What I am of opinion occurred was that an insufficient number of copies of part one was printed owing to the unexpected success of the book, and the part ran out of print. Upon reprinting the footnote was added, and the words "2nd Edition" may be taken as referring to the 2nd edition of Part I, not of the whole book, but a true first issue
should be without the note." The first sheet of fold-out music is not numbered. [2 blanks; frontispiece "Corinthian Capital", title page (verso blank), dedication, table of contents, illustrations: xvi; 376 pages; 1 leaf of advertisements for the publisher; 2 blanks] 8vo; 21 cm. Description:
New York: G.P. Putnam's Sons / The Knickerbocker Press, 1927. Half-Leather. Very Good/No Jacket. Corners a bit rubbed, boards faintly soiled, ink date and owner bookplate of Robert N. Cherry on front flyleaf. 1927 Half-Leather. iv, 325 pp. 8vo. No binder's ticket, but appears to be a contemporary custom rebinding: blue leather spine and corners over blue cloth, gilt titles and rules, top edge gilt, new end sheets. "The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin is the traditional name for the unfinished record of his own life written by Benjamin Franklin from 1771 to 1790; however, Franklin himself appears to have called the work his Memoirs. Although it had a tortuous publication history after Franklin's death, this work has become one of the most famous and influential examples of an autobiography ever written. Franklin's account of his life is divided into four parts, reflecting the different periods at which he wrote them.
