Beautiful edition of Einhard’s 8th century biography of Charlemagne, mellifluously translated from the original Latin into English by Lewis Thorpe and illustrated with sixteen full-page color reproductions of scenes from illuminated manuscripts dating from the 8th through 15th century. Introduction by the translator giving historical background for both Charlemagne and Einhard, plus Strabo’s original prologue and Einhard’s original introduction. Two-page map of the Frankish empire plus a genealogical chart of the Carolingians at the back. Very Good Plus, spine lightly tanned, in a sturdy Very Good Plus slipcase with light sunning along portions of the outer 1" of the perimeter, no chipping, no seam splits.
