New York: D. Appleton and Company, 1891. Half-Leather. Very Good. Complete eight-volume set, each volume bound in half-leather with marbled boards borded in gilt, banded spines with gilt titles and decoration, gilded head edges, marbled endpapers. Pages clean save for mild toning in the margins throughout, a small and faintly inky water stain at the lower bound corners of Volume III, mild rippling along the head edges in Volume V, and small water stains at the heel edges of three other volumes; all bindings remain square and tight, the leather somewhat darkened about the spine heel on five volumes and worn with occasional spots of exposure at the free corners, more gently rubbed at spine ends, with the occasional nick or scratch along the spine and occasional, mild flaking along front hinges, the marbled boards showing chipping at head and heel edges and surface scuffs on the back of Volume VIII and on the front of Volume VI, otherwise lovely. xix + 625, xvi + 699, xii + 591, xv + 606, xvi + 602,…

Description:
Ten (of 12) volumes: Haustellata volumes 1-4, Mandibulata 1-6, lacking volume 7 and supplement. First editions by Baldwin and Cradock, London. 1828-1835. Overall good condition. Complete with all plates and pages. Bindings are mixed. Seven volumes light tan full leather (goat?) with Yapp style bindings. Marbled endpapers and edges. Two half leather, marbled board bindings and one museum library rebind (~75 years old). The interiors are excellent except for vol. 6 Mandibulata which has water toning upper outer corner affecting last quarter of volume and final two plates. Haustellata volume 4 has museum library stamp on title page and plates are in a back pocket; has interesting old scientific marginalia. The value here is in the matching 7 volumes (Haustellata 1-3; Mandibulata 1-4). First appearance of Darwin's work in print. See Freeman pages 19-20. A note on the Yapp bindings: These are clearly 19th century bindings. I find no clues to identify the binder. The leather is limp. When I got this set all…

Description:
New York: Pantheon, March 1979. Trade Paperback. First Revised American Edition (stated) / first printing (no additional printings listed). Fine. Interior pristine. Spine straight, very tight, and uncreased. Corners sharp. Very slight edge wear is the only thing keeping this from being As New. Its hard to imagine a 40+ year-old book in better condition than this. Not from a library. No remainder mark. Not clipped. 172 pages. Lenin is the key to understanding the Russian Revolution. His dream was the creation of the world's first Socialist state. It was a short-lived dream that became a nightmare when Stalin rose to absolute power in 1929. Lenin was the avant-garde revolutionary who adapted Marxist theory to the practical realities of a vast, complex and backward Russia.
