TIGHT, ONLY MARKINGS INSIDE ARE THE FORMER OWNERS SIGNATURE IN THE FRONT, FEW VERY SMALL CHECKS IN MARGIN AND A PLACE INSIDE BACK COVER 2 1/2" LONG WITH SMALL X'S. TERRIFIC ARTWORK INSIDE THROUGHOUT. Wilhelm Hauff (29 November 1802 ¿ 18 November 1827) was a German poet and novelist. Considering his brief life, Hauff was an extraordinarily prolific writer. The freshness and originality of his talent, his inventiveness, and his genial humour have won him a high place among the southern German prose writers of the early nineteenth century. Lichtenstein, an historical novel by W. Hauff, published in 1826. Written in conscious emulation of the Waverley Novels, it is described as Eine romantische Sage aus der württembergischen Geschichte. It is set in the 16th c. in the time of Duke Ulrich, and follows Scott's pattern in using fictitious principal characters with historical figures in the background. The political events narrated are the eviction of Ulrich in 1519 from his duchy by the Swabian League, his victorious return, and subsequent re-expulsion. WONDERFUL BOOK. ANTIQUE BOOKS DEN, WHERE HISTORY LIVES.
