n.p.: n.pub, 1967. 14x14 inch poster on slightly stiff paper, depicting a gang of police in uniform brutally gang-raping the Statue of Liberty and Lady Justice, while the American eagle glides nobly above. Very good. One of the iconic images produced by Cieciorka, most famous for his woodcut of the clenched fist used on countless New Left materials. It appeared in several formats. Steve Hamilton, who went on to prominence in the Revolutionary Union, once told a member of the Bolerium crew that he was wheat-pasting these on walls in San Francisco in the middle of the night when a cop caught him in the act. The officer told Steve that his colleagues had gotten a chuckle out of the image, and he asked for a few copies to take back to the station.

Description:
n.p.: n.p., 1968. Very good +.. Infamous image of a personified Justice and Statue of Liberty being graphically assaulted by a gang of laughing police officers, under the eye of an American eagle. By the artist best known for his iconic woodcut of a clenched fist, an enduring image of the New Left used by anti-draft protestors, Black Panthers, and others. This image was also distributed in a better-known, larger poster that was described at a 1968 House Un-American Activities Committee hearing as "one of the most vile, obscene pieces of literature that I have seen disseminated in San Francisco" by Examiner reporter Edward S. Montgomery. Original print, 5.5'' x 8'' approx. Purple ink on heavy textured paper. Toning to edges; minor edgewear. Very good plus or better.
