Frontispiece, additional pictorial title and fold out map (repaired at fold) of Paraguay. According to Burton's introduction he made two visits to the war zone, in 1868 and the following year. Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay were pitted against Paraguay which was supported by the USA. Britain supported the triumverate.
