London: B. Fellowes, 1847. 8vo. [2], 17, [1] pp.
First edition: Hampden defends his doctrinal orthodoxy against those who would oppose his appointment to the see of Hereford. Born in Barbados, Hampden's celebrated Bampton lectures on the "Scholastic Philosophy considered in its Relation to Christian Theology," brought down upon him the charge of heresy. His career was dogged by strong opposition and equally strong support: Lord John Russell was one of those influential supporters.
NSTC 2H5996. Removed from a nonce volume. Pages slightly age-toned, otherwise clean.
