Berlin: Deutscher Buhnenvertrieb, 1937. No Binding. Very Good. 8.25" x 11.75. This rare piece of Nazi Germany memorabilia was sent by a representative of the Berlin publishing house Deutscher Buhnenvertrieb in 1937 to one "Stephan Albrecht Musikdirektor", a German composer based in New York City. // The letter is focused on an operetta score of Albrecht's (Czar for a Night), which he apparently had submitted for possible publication. The representative praises the work's creativity and craft but explains that Deutscher Buhnenvertrieb promotes a "specific cultural-political line" and does not publish work of a "purely entertaining nature". Assumedly this means that the publisher was part of the Nazi's domestic propaganda effort. The representative also makes reference to Albrecht's accompanying "Arierpapieren" - those insidious documents verifying his Aryan racial lineage. The letter ends with the "HH" salute. It remains unclear whether or not its NYC-based recipient was a Nazi sympathizer. Of further interest, there is small initializing in both bottom corners, suggesting that the letter was subject to censorship scrutiny before being mailed to the USA. CONDITION: This is a clean copy with two horizontal mailing creases, showing light edge- and corner-wear. The envelope is open at the top and on both sides, with several small chips and edge-tears. This rare item is now in a clear, protective polypropylene bag with archival backing board.
