About This Item

London England: Methuen & Co.. These essays range, if not exactly from China to Peru, then from Fiji to Brazil by way of the mythical Terra Australis; in time from the Golden Age of medieval India throught the Renaissance Discovers to the improving ways of modern 'experts'. The intent is often serious, and there is some solid geographical argument; but some pieces have a distinctly lighter touch, for example the account of how a project in Social Engineering at Mbananakoro went hilariously wrong, or the fragment from an apocryphal volume of Arnold Toynbee. Altogether a mixed bag, grave and/or gay but never (well, perhaps hardly ever) really solemn. Previous owners name inside cover. Some wear and tear to D/J.(We carry a wide selection of titles in The Arts, Theology, History, Politics, Social and Physical Sciences. academic and scholarly books and Modern First Editions etc.) . Near Fine. Cloth. First Edition. 1966.
