1642 Erasmus of Rotterdam Autobiography & Letters Dutch Renaissance Humanism "When I have a little money, I buy books; and if I have any left, I buy food and clothes."
― Erasmus
While mostly known for involvement in the Northern Renaissance, Erasmus of Rotterdam published several works on humanism and Protestant theology. Beginning in 1642, publisher Joannis Maire sought to publish an entire series of the works of Erasmus. This work, 'Vita', was the first of this series. This work and the letters therein is a reissue of the 1615 edition that was edited by the famous Dutch scholar Pieter Schrijver. 'Vita' itself is a collection of smaller works including:
·
Erasmus's 'Autobiography'
·
Beatus Rhenanus 'Biography' of Erasmus
·
Erasmus's last will and testament
·
A plethora of letters written by Erasmus to Lambertus Grunnius, Hector Deidonanus, Christophorus Messia Hispanus, Conradus Goclenius, Mutianus Rufus, Joannes de Hondt, Oecolampadius, Petrus Vulcanius, and Helius… Read More

Stuttgart, Germany: Edition Dornberger, 1971. Original folded silkscreen Christmas card . Dated, inscribed, and signed by famed American artist Robert Indiana: "25-XII-'73. Agnes. Greetings. So nice to receive your note--the "Art" sculpture is at Colby for '75 Inaugural (on loan). Bob." Indiana created Christmas cards that he sent to his personal friends, and Agnes almost certainly was the important Canadian-American artist Agnes Martin. I have not yet determined which sculpture is referenced in the note. The silkscreen is in near-fine condtion: clean and bright, with a hint of wear along the folding edge; the fold is slightly askew revealing a bit of the white margin of the note.. SIGNED. First Edition. Single Sheet. Near Fine. Illus. by Robert Indiana. 5 7/8 Inches X 5 7/8 Inches. Fine Art Print.
