About This Item

Cambridge: Cambridge: Printed by John Burges, Printer to the University; and sold by F. & C. Rivington, J. White, and J. Mawman, in London; and J. Deighton, in Cambridge, 1801. Full leather. Very Good. Large folio; not paginated; collates A-5A2 [Common Prayer], A-F2 [Constitutions Ecclesiastical], A-G4 [Psalms]pp. In contemporary full reverse panelled calf (a little stained and worn with minor loss), six raised spine bands, gilt lettered red morocco label to front board ('Chipping Barnet. Rev. B. Underwood M.A., Rector; Isaac Newton, Thomas Tapster, Churchwardens; 1806'). A few quires towards front of the volume creased with occasional tears and loss to few pages; damp damage and tears to outer lower corner of final 30 leaves with loss of text; occasional light spots and browning, otherwise a sound copy of this finely printed, monumentally large lectern edition. Housed in recent brown cloth solander box with gilt lettered spine. Rev. Benjamin Underwood A.M. (1736-1815) was Rector of St Mary the Virgin, East Barnet, in the early 19th century; his white marble memorial stone is to be found there on the north wall by the altar.

About Lyppard Books

Lyppard Books was established in Worcester, UK, in 2012, adopting the unusual name from Lyppard Grange, once a farm attached to the monastery of Worcester's ancient cathedral. We maintain a small and select stock of English and Continental antiquarian titles from the dawn of western printing to the 19th century, and aim to offer original, early examples of scarce and sought-after texts.
