Chatto & Windus,, 1885. 8vo., with numerous board diagrams throughout, half-title lightly browned; handsomely bound in full dark red crushed morocco, sides with gilt frame border, back with raised bands, second and fourth compartments lettered and ruled in gilt, all other compartments tooled in gilt, gilt top, hand-made endpapers, ribbon marker, original backstrip gilt mounted on new leaf at front, a most attractive copy ideal as a gift or for presentation. Early reissue of one of most famous of all English chess books, first published in 1876 as 'Chess; Theory and Practice'. See Betts 10-33; 10-35.
