About This Item

Denver, Colorado:: Sage Books, 1956.. 1st Edition.. Hardbound . BINDING/CONDITION: light olive cloth with dark brown text; a Near Fine book, with a Very Good- dust jacket; publisher's price on the jacket flap is intact.. 8vo (about 8.75 inches tall) . Index. Map endpapers. Description: The dust jacket reproduces a mural of a frontier trial by Allen True. Includes two sections of black and white plates, plus a plate with a labeled tissue overlay; this plate shows a model reconstruction of Denver and Auraria in 1860. Map endpapers show the Colorado Territory, 1861-1876. During the course of research for another book, author Forbes Parkhill discovered the files of civil cases of the First Judicial District, Colorado Territorial District Court. He then searched for, and eventually located the criminal case files as well, resulting in months of research through hitherto unused source documents. The jacket flap states that, so far as the author knows, this ''presents the first published record of the treason cases in Colorado growing out of the Civil War.'' The records give new data and new insights in the history of the Colorado Territory. Six-Guns, Number 1683.
