London: MacMillan and Co, 1922. First edition of this collection of Yeats' later poems. Octavo, original blind-stamped cloth with gilt titles to the spine. Signed and dated by the author on the title page in the year of publication, "W.B. Yeats Nov. 23. 1922." In very good condition with toning to the spine. From the library of S. Matthewman to whom this volume was given by Yeats at a poetry reading in Leeds in 1922. Laid in are poems in the recipient's hand copied from the present volume as well as an original photograph of his sweetheart. Desirable with noted provenance. One of the foremost figures of 20th-century literature, William Butler Years was a pillar of the Irish literary establishment and a driving force behind the Irish Literary Revival. Yeats' earliest volume of verse was published in 1889 and, in 1923, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature. His Later Poems contains a selection of his later works in which he renounced the transcendental beliefs and style of his youth in favor of a more realistic style.
