Both volumes of this two volume set are in very good+ condition in their original dark blue cloth covered boards with gilt text and decorations on the spine and a gilt image on the front boards. Both are octavos of 8 3/4 by 5 1/2 inches with the fore two inches of the boards stained (with no impact on the interiors of same) with early (1867) gift inscriptions on the second free end pages. The joints, hinges and text blocks are tight and strong with the contents showing very little in the way of foxing. The Without dust jackets. Volume I contains 384 pages illustrated with a frontispiece engraved by George H. Thomas and 14 plates by the same artist and numerous vignettes within the text. Volume II contains 384 pages also illustrated with a frontispiece and 14 plates by Thomas. Each of the title pages state that the books are illustrated with 32 images by Thomas...which is apparently an error as the list of illustrations in both books total only 30 plates (counting the frontispieces). This title is the last of a series of six novels which together have been referred to as the Chronicles of Barsetshire.
