Illustrated endpapers, showing a map of Scotland and northern part of England and the route taken by Lassie. Sepia illustrated frontispiece, of Lassie, by Marguerite Kirmse. Within the text they are 6 full-page black and white illustrations and at the beginning of each chapter a small black and white vignette, again by Marguerite Kirmse. Bright green coloured boards with blue coloured titles to the back strip. On the front panel has been placed, in gilt, a School emblem. Colour illustrated dustwrapper with brown coloured titles to the front panel and blue coloured titles to the back strip. "Lassie, the prize dog of a cottager's household, is sold to a wealthy family when hard times befall her original owners. Taken hundreds of miles away, she does what many collies have done before her, she starts home so she can be faithful to a duty – that of meeting a boy by a schoolhouse gate." -- from the rear panel blurb.  Softening and fading, commensurate with loss dustwrapper, to the back strip edges. Rubbing to the book corners and there is foxing to the top book edges. Patchy fading to the book panels with tanning and foxing to the text block edges and light browning to the pages. Offset tanning to the end pages and there is a prize plate fixed to the verso of the free front endpaper. Some foxing to the first few and last few pages of the book. The dustwrapper is in shaky shape – please see photograph.Chipping to the dustwrapper corners and top back strip edge. Creasing and small tears to the top dustwrapper edge with a 3.25" tear to the rear fold over crease and a smaller tear to the rear spine gutter edge. A previous owner has supported both tears with tape – tape still in situ. Rubbing of the dustwrapper, more pronounced on the back strip and the rear panel.
