John Risseeuw: "This print features a map of Cambodia and some of the numerous facts about the mines and victims that I collected. The OK! is in reference to the fact that Cambodia is about the same size as Oklahoma. What would we do if 60 Oklahomans a month were encountering landmine accidents?

Wove paper with no watermarks. Cleanly trimmed (with minor variation on upper edge). A nice impression noting some ink ghosting (presumably from other copies printed at the same time). Signed in type "J. A. Foster" at base of leaf. Intended for brief use in a town or village, these broadsides had a low survival rate. The photographer would pin them up or circulate in the village they were in, drumming up whatever business they could with this new wonder. Once they left, there was no use for the advertisement anymore. Traveling photographers left fewer traces of their businesses - even semi-permanent establishments could put advertisements on their photographs, in local papers, etc. The itinerant photographer was just that - moving around constantly. It is signed by the author. 12 x 18 inches. Issued in an edition of 450 copies (of which 375 are for sale), the broadside features an image of Johnson's hands, and one of his actual revised manuscripts (the text of which tells its own story-within-the-story). Charles Johnson is an essayist, scholar, philosopher, novelist, cartoonist, and professor emeritus at the University of Washington. He received the National Book Award for his work, Middle Passage.

Two hand coloured lithographed broadsides by Lemercier after Victor Adam (1801-1866) and Louis Stanislas Marin-Lavigne (1797-1860) heightened with gum Arabic, each with a large central image showing Napoléon on horseback one dated 1800 the other 1815, each framed by 20 further images which relate important steps in his military and political career giving a full account of his reign closing with a view of his tomb on the island of St. Helena. Large folio (660 x 500 mm). Mounted and framed within modern white cardboard passepartouts. Light foxing, in margins else fine. Two spectacular large size lithographs in beautiful contemporary hand colouring, celebrating Napoleon's life and accomplishments. Many of the small images depict battle scenes others with important political events. Lower margins of each sheet with variant hand coloured allegorical vignette, one showing a heraldic eagle the other the Code Napoléon. Well margined copies.

London: W.C. Such, Printer and Publisher. Very good. Broadside. Undated, ca. 1922. 25 x 19 cm (ca. 9.75" x 7.5"), on newsprint or similar stock. Old folding creased, closed tear with archival repair on verso; very good. Although this song--a lament for England's poor and unemployed--may have been written as early as the 1890s, this edition, with its plea to "Please buy a copy from an unemployed ex-service man," was printed in the aftermath of World War I. Unemployment in England became a significant problem around 1920, as the country's economy slowed, trade decreased, and debts incurred by the war loomed large. Reincorporating the demobilized troops into the civilian workforce and providing sufficient resources for those disabled during the war proved particularly challenging. We locate copies of this song sheet at the British Library, Bodleian (Ballad-Roud # V20673), and the University of Warwick.
