The front endpaper is torn with some loss; the "lost" part has adhered to the reverse of the map corner - it does not affect the map itself. [In 1798 Lacerda attempted to establish a route between the East and West Coast of Africa, making Mozambique an important trading post. He managed to reach Cazembe where he died but his journey added greatly to the geographical knowledge of the interior of Africa.
