Brown boards with white writing on the spine. The spine section of the hardcover binding shows some insect activity, (silverfish), no other damage to the book which is otherwise bright and clean.g. In 1888 Melbourne hosted an ambitious ' Centennial International Exhibition ', to celebrate 100 years of the first foundation of Australian colony. Among the visitors was a Frenchman, Oscar Comettant, who, along with his official duties, explored Melbourne. He published his notebooks two years later in 1890 in French. In this translation we see Melbourne of the 1880s through Gallic eyes, " Comettant was entertained by Melbourne's upper set; visited the opium dens of Little Bourke Street; explored goldmines, the zoo, the forests, and the vineyards; and recorded with refreshing frankness the Australian way of life.
