About This Item

Naples, Italy: Dalla Stamperia e Cartiera Del Fabreno Printing and Paper Mill, 1831. First Edition. Hardcover. Near Fine. 16mo 6" - 7" tall. Perhaps a unique item, at the very least an uber-scarce item, and not available either on-line or in WorldCat. Published in apparent First Edition, though not so stated, in Naples, Italy, from the Fibreno printing and paper mill, 1831. A curious and rare item, featuring a brilliant black-and-white device at title page, and then a fetching poem about injustice in an Italian town in the early-mid 19th century. Italian language text. Bound into simple, brown paper-colored boards, title and date affixed neatly to front cover. There are two typed accompanying documents, the first in English, typed on onion-skin: 1) "This wonderful old paper book of 1831 sent as a gift from Gino Sabattini of Bologna, Italy, my bookplate collector of long standing. It is a rare treasure for my collection of cat books and is about a cat who lost his life for stealing a fish. Strange how such a fragile thing, without board covers, could endure for such a length of time. Fairfax, California, September, 1959." 2), the same transcription, older paper, folded twice Bologna 14 Settembre 1959. Saluti cordiali Sabattini (hand signed)." 15, [1] pp.Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards.
