About This Item

London: Royal Geographical Society, 1889. 15 pages. Plus a fold-out color map measuring approximately 8.25 x 6 inches (21 x 15cm). Original condition with blue wrappers, titles to front, and containing all the ads. This is a complete issue, seldom found in such good and original condition. The author's expedition report, accompanied by a color map, provides intricate contemporary detail of his surveys around Lake Tanganyika. He further remarks on Ujiji society, Zulu tribes and others, on the practice of cannibalism, the still prevalent slave trade. Also includes occasional references to earlier explorers David Livingstone, Henry M. Stanley, and Sir Richard Burton. This account pre-dates Hore's important book titled 'Tanganyika. Eleven Years in Central Africa', which was first published in 1892. . First Edition.
