Portland, Maine: Thomas B. Mosher, 1913. Second edition. Stiff Wraps. Very Good/Good+. 24 mo -- 3-1/2" x 5-1/4". Stiff wraps with off-white/tannish dj with ornate red capital A and the title/author in black. Previous owner's name and date on first blank recto. Opposite the title page: "A certain fatality has surrounded A Lady of Sorrow. Written as early as 1862-64, it first appeared in The National Reformer during 1867. Not until fourteen years later was this splendid prose counterpart of The City of Dreadful Night reprinted. In 1881 in the volume entitled Essays and Phantasies, A Lady of Sorrow held the place of honour, (pp. 1-50,) and might at last be considered in a way to take the position its merits demanded in the world of letters. Unfortunately the edition, consisting of one thousand copies, was more than one-half destroyed by fire, and thus the finest of all Thomson's prose work has remained practically inaccessible until our present reprint." 104 pages. Limited printing statement at the end states "Four hundred and twenty-five copies of this book (second edition) have been printed on Japan vellum, and type distributed, in the month of June, A.D. MDCCCCXIII, at the Press of George D. Loring, Portland, Maine." Dj has minor edgewear and age-toning. Spine is slightly cocked.
