Stowe knew and admired Anne Isabella Byron (1792-1860) through the anti-slavery movement, and felt her to be ill-served by history; in this book she revealled Lord Byron's supposed incest with his half-sister. This is a Very Good copy of the First Edition. Publisher's maroon cloth binding, ruled, with gilt lettering on the spine. Clean text; 482 pages, exceptionally bright and supple. The corners are mildly bumped, with some minor rubbling at margins; the spine has faded to brown but the gilt lettering is still bright. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. First Edition.. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket.

When Stow wrote The True Story of Lady Byron's life, the critics were cruel here and abroad. With this new title, her critics and readers became even more abusive. She felt it was time and her duty to defend what she had written in her biography of Lady Byron.
