London, 1975. First printing. Paperback. Very good condition. A scarce, long run of this magazine with 45 issues in total. Each issue is made up of the records of the members alpine exploits. The Ladies' Alpine Club was founded in 1907 and was based at the Great Central Hotel in Marylebone, London where the papers would be read and members could dine. The annual records all women's climbs and expeditions for the preceding year, obituaries, photographs, book reviews, texts of lecture mainly given at the London club and papers presented by women climbers. Though based in the UK, there were members from all over the world including Australia, France, Holland, Canada & America. The members names & addresses are included at the back of the issues. Freya Stark was an honorary member while resident in Benghazi, North Africa. Early members include Miss M. E. O'Brien of Dedham, Massachusetts; Mrs. Lindon of Hobart; Mrs. Henshaw of Vancouver, British Columbia and Miss M. Lorimer of Wellington, New Zealand. Articles include Mrs. Underhill "Climbing Notes from the American West"; and "East Ridge of the Grand Teton" by Elizabeth Cowles, 1939. Large 12mo, each issue between 40 & 80 pages, printed photographic illustrations. There are 4 issues missing from the run, 1929, 1932, 1937 & 1958. Original printed paper wrappers, some pictorial. Most in fine condition (1934 wrapper a little rippled; spine chipped base of 1930). OCLC: 906453836.
