The volume is dated 1398 (Hijri calendar) and the ground breaking ceremony was February 1, 1978 (Safar 23, 1398). The text, in English and Arabic, walks the reader through the city, pointing out salient features, and is accompanied by photographs of the landscape, maps, architectural models, and site maps. King Khalid Military City (KKMC) was designed and built by the Middle East Division, a unit of the United States Army Corps of Engineers, in collaboration with local national engineers and project managers. It is located in northeastern Saudi Arabia, near the Kuwait border, and was built to provide lodging for several brigades of Saudi troops, Planning for the city began in 1974 but before construction could begin, required a new Persian Gulf port to handle all the material needed.
