About This Item
Toronto: The Ryerson Press, 1958. Winner of the Ryerson Fiction Award. This is the story of the King's who came, in 1800, to the Eastern township of Quebec from Vermont, and were the last of the Loyalists. It is also the story of the Michauds, whose numerous family had called Canada home for 150 years. All the principal characters are ultimately involved in the short-lived Papineau Rebellion, a clash of race and religion and in the fears and rivalries of their generation. The maple tree that stood in front of the home on the King Farm became a symbol of the historic and bitter differences in the community.... Light green cloth boards. A clean, bright, sound book in an illustrated dust jacket that shows wear to extremities and a spot of paper loss to top of the front panel. The dust jacket illustration remains bright. Although this book is a work of fiction by this Manitoba-born author, all places exist, or did exist in Vermont or Quebec.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Near Fine/Very Good.
