Oblong 4to (11 1/2 x 9 1/2"), cloth backed boards, pictorial paste-on, Fine in dust wrapper (dw slightly frayed). 1st and probably only edition of this charming picture book composed of a series of nine poems meant to be read out loud to children. Each page of verse has a lovely detailed pictorial border by Stilwell and there are 9 fine color plates plus pictorial endpapers and other smaller line illustrations - all featuring small children and most with the theme of the child's kiddie-kar rider as well. A rare children's book by this Brandywine artist, especially in the dust wrapper.

Sitwell Weber title. Sarah S. Stilwell Weber studied under Howard Pyle at the Drexel Institute, and was one of the core members of the Brandywine School and the Plastic Club. Her vibrant figures and Art Nouveau-inspired compositions made her a popular periodical illustrator, and she created covers for THE SATURDAY EVENING POST, HARPER'S BAZAAR, COLLIER'S, and others; the work made her one of the highest-paid woman artists of her day.
