London: Jonathan Cape Limited. Brown Boards. xvipp; 218pp; 4pp maps and a fold out map attached to the rear end paper. No wrapper. Gilt embossed lettering to the front board and spine. Numerous full page b/w photographs illustrate the book as called for. Bound in dark blue buckram with blue upper fore edges. Bump to the head of the spine with a small split to the cloth at the head of the spine. The cloth at the tail of the spine is lightly turned in and the two upper corners are slightly bumped. Light fading to the spine and to the periphery of the boards. Each chapter heading has a neat pencil insceription stating the day on which the climb took place. There is a split of 15 cm along the centre crease to the fold out map, now expertly repaired, with no loss of the illustration. A few page corner tips are slightly tunred. Clean and tight. A well preserved, very good copy. . Very Good. 1929. 1st Edition.

Pages remain clear with minimal tanning and foxing, mild to end-papers and text-block edges. Minor pencil marking to front free end-paper. Small crayon scribble to the front paste down. Plates are bright and clear. Cracking to gutters. Boards have moderate edge-wear with bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Heavy crushing to spine ends. Minor fraying to cloth at spine ends. Book has a slight forward lean. Sunning to cloth. Gilt lettering is darkened.

First published in 1929, this is the new edition, published in 1930.Blue buckram, with title in gilt on spine and front cover. Condition: Good, although the covers are faded and sunned, particularly to the spine and cover edges. Some "bubbling" to cloth around the spine, not from damp but difficult to determine the cause.Light foxing to endpapers. Front endpaper bears the name G.Huxley (Gervas Huxley, husband of the writer on Africa, Elspeth Huxley), and the date 1933. Binding sound, text clean. 218pp. 55 illustrations, plus frontispiece. 3 sketch maps plus a folding general map of Mount Kenya to rear of book. This was the first book to be written devoted to Mount Kenya which had been clibmbed around the time of publication by P.Wyn Harris, Mr E E Shipton and Mr G A Sommerfelt..
