FIRST AND ONLY EDITION (1883), 4 cards, 3 landscape, 1 portrait format, 180 x 243 mm, 7 1/8 x 9½ inches, each with different coloured illustrations and decorations and verses below, reverse blank. 1) 4 small girls dressed for the seasons, 2 vases of tulips below enclosing the verses; 2) 6 girls above and 6 below the music and verse, dressed for the seasons; 3) 3 young children at the top, 2 young ladies at left, 2 young women each with a baby at right, 3 old ladies in winter clothes at foot; 4) the same size but portrait format: 2 little girls hold hands at the top, 1 in a spring outfit, the other in winter clothes. Tiny chip to edge of 1 margin on No.1. Otherwise a very good plus set. The upper cover of the original posting envelope has been mounted on a suitable envelope. It has a large red line illustration by Greenaway showing a mother with two children, each holding a greeting card, no postage stamp rectangle.
