NY: Outlook Co., 1910. Magazine. Fair +. Magazine -- Stapled Softcover. Vol 95, No. 10.. Approx 40 news and opinion pages, in small print on coated stock, plus several additional pages of display and classified ads. Various ad illustrations but no news photos. Featured cover story:: Governor Hughes, the Legislature and Primary Reform" by Theodore Roosevelt (the magazine's associate editor at the time.) Approx. two dozen brief additional articles on various political, diplomatic and religious topics. The magazine (an early forerunner of Time and Newsweek) focused mainly on New York City and New York State, but also included various dispatches from overseas, including one on the Turkish Revolution and a piece on Egypt's nationalist movement against British imperialism. Most of the articles are written in a first-person, subjective style, closer to editorial analysis than neutral just-the-facts reporting. Ad pages contain many quaint relics, such as James McCutcheon men's shirts for $1.50 and up, and a Bon Ami cleanser ad showing an Aunt Jemimah character speaking in Negro dialect. Textblock complete but detached from cover. Two-inch tear in cover's spine. Many real estate and education ads. The publication folded in 1935. Its plain text-only cover resembled that of Foreign Affairs. Size: 4to -- 9.75 in Tall.
