About This Item
Racine, WI: Whitman Publishing Company, 1942. Hardcover. Illustrations by Erwin L. Darwin. 8vo. Blue paper over boards with red lettering, pictorial dust jacket. 251pp. Line drawings, pictorial endpapers. Very good/very good. Text block moderately and evenly age toned as usual; jacket rather edgeworn, with a few tiny edge chips, but complete and bright. A tight and sharp copy of this "Captain Midnight Adventure" starring the superhero featured in comic books, radio, television, films and books. This copy bears interesting autograph addition: Tipped to the inner flyleaf facing the title page is a transmittal envelope inside of which is a fine heavy stock 5" X 3" card boldly signed, inscribed and dated in black ballpoint by the actor who portrayed Captain Midnight in the mid-'50s television serial: "Richard Webb / 'Captain Midnight' / Thank you," with "18 Jan. 88" at upper right. Webb (1915-93) was a film actor who began in the 1940s ("The Sands of Iwo Jima," "On the Beach") and achieved stardom on television's "Captain Midnight" and "U.S. Border Patrol." This publisher does NOT indicate edition in any consistent, verifiable manner.
