Carey, Lea and Carey, 1829-01-01. First Edition. Hardcover. Good. First American edition. Bound in 1/2 modern leather over marbled boards. Marbled end papers. Leather spine label. XXIV, 422 p. Map. Foxing / toning. Clapperton journeyed from Tripoli to Murzuk, meeting up with Dixon Denham. The two men made their way to Kuka (Nigerai), the seat of the Bornu Empire, to Kano and Sokoto. His observations include the first European account of the Hausa people. Includes "A list, or summary account, of the late Captain Clapperton's Arabic papers, translated by Mr. A.V. Saleme" : pages [389]-395.
