This copy of Journal of a Residence on a Georgia Plantation has new pastedowns and a new leather spine cover with the title in gold on the spine. Both boards are original and are covered in the original brown embossed cloth. The rear lower corner is lightly bumped, and there is wear to the tail of the boards, and the boards are exposed near the corners. The interior is clean and all pages are present. No foxing but all pages are lightly tanned. "about " is printed twice on page 314, line 6, identifying this copy as a first issue. Truly a lovely copy. Oh, and this copy comes from Darien Georgia where the Butler Plantation is located.. First Edition.. Hard Cover. Very Good+/None Isssued. Memior/ History/Georgia.

Frances Anne Kemble, better known as "Fanny" Kemble was a 19th-century British actress who, after traveling in the United States, published a number of written works describing her travels. Her best work, and notably most popular, is her 'Journal of a Residence on a Georgian Plantation.' In this work, which was published during the American Civil War, Kemble notes her experiences and observations of slavery on a southern plantation in the late 1830s.
