Signed by artist. Jasper Johns has been called the greatest living American Artist. He is associated with Abstract Expressionism, Neo-Dada and pop art. Honors include the National Medal of Art and the Presidential Medal of Freedom. His works have sold for the most by any living artist. This is the softcover exhibition catalogue from a 5 city tour (2 in the US) in 1978. Laid in is an invitation to the Members Preview of the exhibition where it mentions that the artist will be present. I really don't know if this is a first edition, I just presume so since this is a short tour. The laid in invitation is photographed with the artists signature page. Jasper Johns has signed and dated on the first free end page (no inscription). The date on the signature corresponds with the date of the Members Preview on the invitation. The book is in near fine condition, the corners are square, and the pages are clean and unmarked.

Description:
Edition De La Main Fleurie, 2004. As New. This is a huge clam shell box with loose plates inside. This is # 927 / 2500 copies. The Suite of illustrations are on "Main Fleurie" paper. "From the beginning, my aims in this enterprise were clear and ambitious. I wanted first and foremost to do justice to the full artistic genius of Audubon, going back to his intial efforts, and yourthful experiments, and on through the complete mastering of his art in his middle years. thus I begin with several of his drawings recently discovered in the cellars of the Natural History Museum in La Rochelle, demonstrating the enormouse strides Audubon made very quickly in his career, and go on to include a number of his mature works from the great collection of the New York Historical Society. The texts chosen to accompany his art are here to illustrate the man behind the paintings." from the Acknowledgements by Pascal Jeanjean Publisher. This is a very large and heavy Portfolio, so shipping will be more than our standard…
