About This Item

New York: Moffat, Yard and Co, 1920. First Edition, First Printing. Hardcover. Very Good +/Lacking. 260 p. 19 cm. Smallish 8vo. Blue cloth over boards, orange lettering to spine. Book Condition: Mild wear to extremities, foxing to first few pages. Very Good+ overall. Lacking the rare dust jacket. Bojer was considered by his contemporaries to be the most important Scandinavian writer since Ibsen. Translated from the Norwegian by Elizabeth Jelliffe Macintire. With an introd. by Llewellyn Jones and critiques by John Galsworthy, Joseph Hergesheimer, James Branch Cabell and Cecil Roberts. Frontispiece is a portrait of Bojer drawn by Kahil Gibran; there is a brief forward by Howard Willard Cook geared exclusively to the extraordinary excellence of this drawing. There are two introductions, one by the author, and one by Llewellyn Jones. Galsworthy, Hergesheimer, Cabell and Roberts contribute essays on individual works which are found in the appendix. There is a "glossary" of Bojer's works following the appendix.
