More prominent to text block edges, pastedowns and free endpapers. Pen inscription to front free endpaper. Light cracking and creasing to gutters but binding remains firm. Book is noticeably bowed and forward leaning with visible tanning and scuffing overall. Spine has light tanning with soft crushing to ends. Unclipped dust jacket with minor rubbing, chipping and tearing to edges. Moderate tanning and scuffing overall.

London: Ward, Lock, 1953. Black titles and sailing ship motif on light blue boards with pictorial endpapers also of ship and internally very clean, tight and unmarked but age faded. Coloured pictorial dustjacket of Jill holding Diddums and coloured sailing ship to back by Alice Bush has some chipping to top and is not price clipped. Not dated but is in fact 1953 third edition (first was 1927). Uniform with 'The Mayflower Series' for young people priced at 2 shillings. When Jill set out to find a new home her only companion was Diddums for Jill would not be parted from her beloved cat - her Mascat as she called him - had an astonishing part to play in the Lone Guide's struggles and welfare.
