Red cloth hardcover with gilt title on the front cover and spine. Color illustrated dust jacket with price of 35 printed on the front inner jacket flap has been repaired. Jacket was torn in several spots and patched on the back. Some of the material used to patch the tears has resulted in small dark stains showing on the front upper edges. Illustrated throughout the book with color and black and white paintings. Includes two original color lithographs (pages 8 and 14). A few light spots to the cloth binding. Internal contents in very good condition. No written inscriptions or previous owner names.

Monte Carlo: Andre Sauret, 1962. First Edition. Hardcover. Very good/very good. Folio, 210pp., illustrated. A very good copy in the publisher's grey cloth, gently bumped at the corners. In a very good dust jacket with some corner wear, and the original clear outer dust jacket, which has a large piece missing from the front panel, else complete. This is the true first edition, whcih includes two bound-in lithographs executed by Chagall. This French issue, textually identical to the New York issue, appears to be differentiated by the grey cloth binding and the "Andre Sauret" imprint on the jacket spine. It seems to be significantly scarcer in commerce than the American issue. A stunningly beautiful book, one of Chagall's great achievements.
