Tight and VG in its blue cloth, with light staining at the panels (which has not bled thru and does not affect the text in the slightest) in a crisp, VG+ to Near Fine dustjacket, with one small closed tear at the bottom-edge. Thick quarto, beautifully photographed in rich gravure by Kiyoshi Sonobe. Another in Tuttle's long line of first-rate studies of Japanese history and culture.

Tokyo and Rutland, Vermont : Bijutsu Shuppan-Sha and Charles E Tuttle Company Inc, 1965. First English edition with revised text in one volume. Original Cloth. Fine/Nr Fine. Sm 4to. pp. 516. Some 400 b&w gravure illust. and 12 col. plates. Gilt titles to spine, blue cloth, col. patterned endpapers. The first major examination of the topic, the first to be translated into English and still a standard reference. In the original slip case. One description mentions a lid to the spine. This slipcase lacks a lid although it appears that there may have been a lid which has been removed. Otherwise the slipcase is in excellent condition with the title strip to side intact. The dust jacket remains in fine condition with just a small closed tear to hd of spine, now repaired with archival tape. Book is fine.
