Singapore: Changi University Press, 2008. 228pp., art and photographic b/white illustrated section. Book clean and square. Spine firm. Illustrated card wrapper minimally edgeworn only. Textblock unmarked. The author, who was born in 1919 and died in 2009, was studying architecture at the University of Liverpool when war broke out in 1939. He was a gunner-surveyor with his regiment, the 155 (Lanarkshire Yeomanry) Field Regiment, Royal Artillery, and was taken prisoner at the fall of Singapore, spending three and a half years as a P.O.W. of the Japanese in Singapore and Japan. After an intense hatred of the Japanese that lasted twenty-five years, the author returned to Japan to finally lay to rest the ghost of the war . . .
