A very scarce first edition of Thomas Knight's satirical poem from the point of view of his character Jacob Gawkey, which he performed at the Theatre Royal, Bath. The first edition of this work. A very scarce work. ESTC citation number T9977. Collated, complete. Date taken from the advertisement from the reverse of the title page. A satirical poem. The character of Jacob Gawkey is from Miss Lee's comedy 'The Chapter of Accidents'. The role of Jacob was known to be one of Knight's greatest. This poem was delivered by Knight at the Theatre Royal in Bath. Thomas Knight was an actor and dramatist, who rose to great heights after being born into a poor family in Dorset. He first appeared at Covent Garden on the 25th September 1795, as Jacob. Condition: Disbound. Externally, the outer wraps are discoloured with some spots. Evidence of a rubber out pencil mark to the rear outer wrap. Edgewear to the text. Internally, disbound. Pages are lightly age-toned with some spots and marks. Overall Condition: Good.
