Bound into a volume of the Pamphlets and leaflets for 1912 by the Liberal Publication Department complete with 18 other speeches on subjects including Home Rule, Free Trade, The House of Lords, and International relations and Armaments.Includes speeches by Asquith and Lloyd George, a folding colour map of Ulster and a collection of Liberal leaflets. Irish Home Rule with front and rear cover. 16pp. -- The Liberal Government with both covers. 24pp. The whole collection bound by the Liberal Publication Department in quarter green morocco, lettered in gilt. The spine has faded to brown and shows loss to the top half inch. Edges rubbed. Overall the binding has done its job of keeping the pamphlets in fine condition. Two rare items from Churchill's early political career bound with contemporary speeches which show them in context with the other issues of the period.-- Woods A20(a), & A21.:

Programme for the Churchill: What the papers say exhibition of 1997, and prospectus for the Rylands Research Institute are both hard bound, complete with colour covers bound in, in light blue half cloth bindings with gilt lettering to the spines and marbled paper on the boards. These both measure 11.8 x 8.6 inches. Farnie Biography of Rylands is bound in half red cloth with marbled paper on boards and gilt lettering on the spine and measures 9.9 x 6.3 inches. Beautifully Illustrated with 36 fine full colour plates by Russell Flint. Publishers green cloth with elaborate blind tooled decoration to the front boards and spines, which are also ruled and lettered in gilt. In the original scarce dustwrappers with colour plates mounted onto the front panels. The cloth boards are a bit dulled and there is a near one-inch tear, without loss, to the top of the spine of volume one, but the gilt is still strong and bright. Previous owner armorial bookplate (Isaac Holden, politician and inventor of a wool-combing machine, who received a Baronetcy in 1893) and also ink name and address stamped to the front blank free endpapers. Some foxing to the blank endpapers otherwise a very good bright and clean set throughout. All three volumes in fine nineteenth century bindings of full tan calf. Spines with raised bands, the compartments ruled and fully decorated in gilt. Red and green labels, gilt. Boards with double gilt ruled borders. Marbled endpapers. All edges marbled. Some minor rubbing to edges but generally a very good copy in attractive nineteenth century bindings. The bindings are unsigned but very high quality work.

This book is in fairly good condition. There is some wear on the front, back, edges, and spine of the cover boards, as well as spots on the outside back cover board. There is minimal bumping and fraying on the cover boards. The pages are yellowing and tanning, with some vertical fraying and warping, but the pages are clear of markings. A few of the pages are dog-eared and edges torn. "The Forsyte Saga was the title originally destined for that part of it which is called 'The Man of Propery; and to adopt it for the collected chronicles of the Forsyte family has indulged the Forsytean tenacity that is in all of us.
