About This Item

New York: Random House, 1952. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. Very Good in a Very Good jacket with the Gordon Parks portrait on the rear panel, clipped, generally rubbed toned, a few creases, chips, and small closed tears. Grey and black buckram on the boards, a few spots of foxing on the upper portion. Square and firmly bound with a black top stain, clean internally, some faint staining on the outer edge of the text block. A classic of American literature, the winner of the 1953 National Book Award and ranked 19th on the Modern Library's list of 100 best English-language novels. .

Synopsis

Even though Ralph Ellison's novel Invisible Man is sometimes featured on banned books lists, it remains a consistent staple on many high school reading curriculums. In the novel, Ellison laments the feeling of hopelessness and invisibility that many Black men experience in the United States, and it elegantly explores the themes of racism and bigotry in ways that are both unsettling and accessible.
