About This Item

New York, Chicago, Hollywood: Associated Booking Corp, 1950. Unbound. Fine. Black and white publicity photograph of Shaw playing the bass. Measuring 8.5" x 10". Fine. Inscribed in upper left corner: "For Jane, Best wishes, Arvell Shaw." The inscription is just a little light but easily readable. Shaw was a St. Louis, Missouri-born jazz standup double-bass player, best known for his work with Louis Armstrong. He played with Armstrong from the end of WWII intermittently until the end of the 1960s, with several sojourns along the way with Benny Goodman and in the Russ Case Trio.
