About This Item
Chicago: A. C. McClurg, unknown. Hardcover. Hardcover. An early edition, though the book is missing the frontispiece and the copyright page. The book was first published in 1907, so this is likely an edition between 1907 and 1913. Book shows considerable wear, tape holding the front board in place. Binding on the spine worn and faded. The book is a collection of letters from the son of a Hopi chieftain to the Lady of the New Moon, a white woman he fell in love with, sent to her in his dreams. The author went to live among the Hopi in Arizona in1909. According to The New York Times, Ryan "claimed to be the only white woman ever admitted to the secret religious rites of the Hopi.
