About This Item

London: Longmans, Green for the Index Society, 1881. Gilt title to spine with the Index Society's gilt motif to front with black decoration on red cloth boards which have age darkening to edges and just a little wear to spine head and tail. Internally there a few spots to the margins of the first four pages, a little gentle creasing to a few pages with pages 25 to 91 unopened. viii + 91 pages. Title page shows date as 1881 but spine date shows 1879. Henry Benjamin Wheatley (1838-1917), founded the Index Society in 1877, but the Society did not last long and failed through lack of funds. Sir George Otto Trevelyan (1838-1928) was a British statesman and biographer of his maternal uncle Thomas Babington Macaulay, 1st Baron Macaulay. B2A. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
