Paris: Marcel Seheur, 1920. Preface by Pierre MacOrlan. 4to, cream-colored boards titled in red and brown with paste-down color illustration. In extraordinary condition. One of 175 copies with contents on light card leaves mounted on stubs. Illustrated by Lucien Boucher, painter and poster designer. Two vignettes in text, double page view of the prison camp and 21 plates, handcolored by the artist in somber and melancholy tones. The brief text and the images reflect the boredom and depression of prison life. The three men were prisoners of war in the Mersenburg camp in Saxony " Lucien Boucher, the publisher Marcel Seheur, and the author Mario Meunier, who was the secretary of Rodin and Isadora Duncan. No. 54 of only 175 copies. 22 handcolourd plates and 21 text leaves decorated in colour, all mounted on linen guards. 4to., (280 x 190 mms), original boards with hand coloured illustrations on the upper cover. Covers with some marking and darkening but generally a very good copy.||A rare and visually remarkable pictorial record of life in a German prisoner of war camp in WWI. Mario Meunier, who had been private secretary to both Auguste Rodin and Isadora Duncan before the war, was incarcerated in Merseburg in Saxony from September 1914 along with the illustrator Lucien Boucher and the publisher.
