Hodder and Stoughton. Hardcover. Good. Eleaor Fortescue Brickdale. Tan hardcover with a coat of arms stamped cover illustration and gilt titles, lacking dustjacket. No indication of publication year or printing. Spine titles are faded and difficult to read. Rough cut textblock edges. Heavy wear to the corners and spine ends, bumped and fraying and with a 1" tear to the cloth at the head of the rear joint. The interior is much better. A few spots of foxing here and there but not pervasive or detracting. Previous owner's name in pencil across the half-title page appears to be the only marking. Binding and hinges are solid but lacking tightness as the book opens widely, and a bit of the webbing shows in the gutter of pp. 176. Beautiful tipped in plates by Brickdale, each protected with an oversheet and cut paper matte behind. All plates are present and in good condition. 216 pp.
