I Married A Russian - Letters from Kharkov by Street, Lucie (edited by) - 1946

Internally there is a little foxing to endpapers else clean, tight and unmarked. Map of Kharkov frontispiece. Third impression (first was 1944). The letters are by 'Eddie' (a nickname given to an English woman by her friends, and how she remains anonymous in the book) to / from her husband 'Kira' (as he is anonymously referred to in the book). Kira is in fact Kirill Sinelnikov, who worked in Rutherford's Cavendish Laboratory at Cambridge with fellow Russian Pyotr Kapitza (or Peter L. Kapitsa) in 1928, on nuclear research. Sinelnikov returned to Russia in 1931 to organise a department at the Ukrainian Physico-Technical Institute (UFTI) in Kharkov, one of several devoted to nuclear physics. Other letters in the book are from 'Eddie' to various other people and encompass life in Kharkov and Russia in the 1930's and 1940's. 4. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
